Board Recruitment

Have you thought about being a Board Member at CHISEL?

CHISEL is always looking for expressions of interest from people to join our Board.

We welcome both residents and members of the general public with local knowledge of professional expertise.

We currently (Spring 2024) have a vacancy for a Resident Board Member. So, if you are a CHISEL resident and want to contribute to the strategic direction of our housing association, this might be the opportunity for you.

Do you think you can lead CHISEL confidently through the next year and beyond?

We are looking for people who are first, passionate about social housing and resident participation and second, enthusiastically optimistic with the ability to bring experience and skills to work with our committed colleagues and Board teams.

Joining our Board allows you to adapt and apply everything you have learned to date, and you can gain a clearer idea of your professional strengths and weaknesses whilst simultaneously learning altogether new skills.

This role will reward you with a wealth of personal and professional skills which are valuable for both work and personal life, whilst empowering you with a sense of contribution in the pursuit of a wider purpose.

Please don’t be concerned if this will be your first board position. We will be able to provide you with training and mentorship to ensure that you are able to understand the process.

Location and time commitment

Our Main Board meetings are held four times a year, in person for two hours in the evenings in the CHISEL offices in Brockley, SE4

You might also be interested in joining a committee instead of or alongside the main board. These committees have a narrower remit but scrutinise more deeply before items are passed up to the main board.

Our committees are:
FRAAC (Finance, Risk, Audit, and Assets Committee) – meets 4 times a year online.
Remunerations and Nominations Committee (basically Human Resources) meets twice a year online.

How to Apply

Please send your CV into the Company Secretary at [email protected] and we will get in touch and arrange an initial informal chat with our board chair Louise Owen.
