Making
your own improvements
You have the right to carry
out alterations and improvements to your home at your own expense,
such as erecting a TV aerial, fitting an extra gas fire or altering
kitchen units.
In certain very limited circumstances, you may be
entitled to compensation for work carried out at you own expense
if you later leave the property.
Further details can be found in the Tenants' Compensation
Policy - please ask for a copy from your Housing Manager.
We will usually be happy to give permission
as long as the proposed work would not make your home less safe
(e.g. fitting bars on your windows), or reduce the amount of living
accommodation, or result in an increase in our maintenance costs.
We will require that the work be of a good
standard, that you bear all costs relating to the improvements,
and that you maintain these alterations yourself.
